Project

Mina, Inc. sought to enter the fiercely competitive energy shot retail market—a category dominated by established national brands commanding premium shelf space in major retailers. The startup faced the formidable challenge of securing retail distribution and achieving shelf presence that would capture consumer attention amid a crowded field of established competitors. A complete product branding and packaging system was required, including logo design, shrink wrap bottle packaging for multiple flavor variants, and coordinating retail carton packaging that would maximize product visibility on store shelves. With Target confirmed as the exclusive brick-and-mortar retail partner for nationwide distribution, the packaging design needed to perform strategically—differentiating Drive 7-Hour Energy Shot from category leaders while communicating product benefits and flavor profiles at point of purchase. Mina, Inc. commissioned The Pixelle LLC to develop a comprehensive packaging design system that would position the new energy shot as a credible, appealing choice in the competitive retail landscape.

Client discovery sessions were conducted to uncover key themes, values, aesthetic preferences, and core brand personality traits essential to the project. Must-haves, requirements, deadlines, and intended use cases were identified to ensure successful execution. The resulting insights informed a packaging design approach that prioritized shelf visibility, flavor differentiation, and competitive positioning within the constraints of energy shot packaging standards.

The brand logo and coordinating color palette were created to establish a distinctive visual identity that would translate effectively across all packaging applications. Custom plastic shrink wrap bottle packaging was designed for three flavor variants offered at initial product launch: Berry Blast, Orange, and Pink Lemonade. Each flavor variant received unique color coding and graphic treatment to enable instant recognition and differentiation at retail. Coordinating 2-pack cardstock folding carton packaging was designed for all three flavors, incorporating strategic window cutouts that made the product bottles visually accessible on retail shelves—a critical design decision that allowed the colorful shrink wrap designs to serve as additional brand communication and shelf appeal even when products were boxed for retail sale.

The comprehensive packaging design system successfully positioned Drive 7-Hour Energy Shot for market entry, supporting the product’s placement in Target stores nationwide as well as online sales channels. The multi-flavor launch strategy, supported by distinctive packaging design for each variant, enabled the brand to capture diverse consumer taste preferences while maintaining cohesive brand identity across the product line at point of purchase.
