YMCA Floor Plan Illustrations

Hillsborough YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA, underwent a significant interior renovation beginning in early 2020. The project paused due to COVID-19, resumed, and concluded with the unveiling of an expansive new fitness center featuring refreshed cardio equipment, benches, free weights, and more at the end of 2023. A visual representation of the exciting changes on the inside was needed for various purposes, including Y member communications, donor cultivation, and periodic visits from local officials and dignitaries.

APPROACH & OUTCOME

Using Adobe Illustrator, the Hillsborough YMCA floor plan was recreated, all rooms and spaces were labeled, and functionally similar spaces were chromatically grouped to enhance understanding of the myriad improvements being made, effectively showcasing the dramatic interior changes the Hillsborough YMCA was undergoing. The chromatic groupings instantly communicated the increased efficient utilization of the whole interior space within the facility—a primary goal of the capital project. The illustration was utilized in a myriad of places, including the Y’s website, email communications, and posters in and around the branch. Across the board, informative elements like this used in concert with the prescribed marketing communications mix helped keep member frustration at a minimum while generating anticipation of the member experience to come.
