Kamala’s Content Brigade
The Democratic National Committee’s Team Harris faced the challenge of producing high-volume digital content at unprecedented scale during the compressed 2024 presidential campaign timeline. To amplify grassroots awareness and voter education efforts across diverse communities nationwide, a volunteer-led content creation infrastructure was required that could deliver professionally designed social media assets with rapid turnaround—particularly during time-sensitive campaign moments and news cycles. Kamala’s Content Brigade was established as a distributed network of skilled volunteer content creators who could generate on-brand digital creative assets to support the campaign’s messaging priorities, voter registration drives, and rapid response communications. Volunteer Content Creators with demonstrated graphic design and video production experience were recruited to contribute pro-bono creative services supporting the campaign’s digital outreach strategy from September through November 2024.
APPROACH & OUTCOME
A distributed collaboration model was implemented using Discord as the primary coordination platform, enabling real-time communication among volunteer creators, fact-checkers, writers, and organizational leaders, as well as direct coordination with Harris campaign staff. This structure allowed for rapid content development cycles and quality control processes that maintained messaging accuracy and brand consistency across hundreds of volunteer contributors.
Over 50 custom social media graphics and digital content pieces were created across various visual styles and treatments during the three-month engagement period. Content focused on policy positions, voter registration information, early voting details, and rapid response messaging addressing current events and opponent messaging. Rapid response content creation involved real-time turnaround during live campaign events, debates, and breaking news moments—often requiring completion within hours to capitalize on viral opportunities and counter misinformation. All created content underwent fact-checking and approval processes before deployment.
The volunteer-created content library collectively exceeded 3,000 pieces, generating over 5.5 million social media impressions across campaign distribution channels. Approved content was deployed through official DNC media distribution systems to elected officials, candidates, media organizations, local grassroots groups, and individual supporters for amplification across their respective platforms and communities. The distributed volunteer content creation model successfully enabled the campaign to maintain consistent digital presence and rapid response capabilities across multiple platforms and audiences throughout the final months of the presidential race.
